Watch, Listen & Enjoy

What if you could hop on a train and be taken to a new world where you could live out all your fantasies?!

Westworld has made this possible! Aired in 2017 for the first time and renewed for a second season (scheduled for early 2018), the show has quickly become one of the most popular of all time.

Set in a theme park filled with humanoid robots designed to satisfy humans' every desire, the show follows the lives of both hosts (robots) and guests (humans) as they get involved in each other's lives. And yes! It's not only the human guests that discover new things in this new world: the hosts, robots that resemble humans in every way, also learn from their interactions with the guests as well as in the environment. And what if the humanoid robots manage to develop a consciousness of their own?

Watch the Trailer: Can you distinguish between humans and humanoid robots in this short trailer?

Let's Learn

When words are heard separately - for instance, when one clicks to listen to their pronunciation in an online dictionary - they are easy to distinguish. They are harder to recognize when used in longer speech and in natural contexts, where there is background noise (e.g. in a crowded street).

In today's post, we've singled out precisely those words that are simple, but hard to hear when used in combination with other words. Our choices here also reflect pronunciation/grammar nuances that need to be taken into account when hearing a word in the context of a sentence.

Listen Again: Fill in the blanks with the words you hear:

[1] - I came back!                    - You know if I could _______ right here with you, I would.
[2] Just sometimes I feel like the world out there is ________ me.
[3] You’re one of them, _______ you? You’re not real!
[4] Bring yourself back online.
[5] - Do you know where you are?                 - I'm in a ________.
[6] I designed every part of this place; not a theme park, but an ________ world.
[7] You and everyone you know were ________ to gratify the desires of the people who pay to vsit your world
[8] Just don’t forget. They're not real!
[9] ________ you and I do is so complicated.
[10] I need your help, Dolores, I think I made a mistake.
[11] So _____ creatures have been misbehaving..
[12] I think _______ may be something wrong with this world.
